Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War – Word for word translation
Disc time: 10:02 to 10:08
This month’s Yarikomi (Game challenge) Grand Prix features 2 games. The first challenge is to complete Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War by only using bombs that can be dropped from above.
Disc time: 10:09 to 11:06
Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War is the 6th title in the flight shooting game series (a big hit throughout the world) with a fascinating story and a high standard of game play.
Here are the restrictions for this challenge:
First, the player must play on the highest difficulty level, ‘Ace’.
Next, the assistant plane must be set to only attack enemies on the ground.
It is forbidden to use the special weapons of the assistant plane.
To clear each mission, the designated targets must be destroyed manually.
Mission 7 and Mission 13, where the pilot must return, are to be cleared with an S-rank.
The ACE enemy aircrafts which appear in Mission 16, are to be destroyed in the early stages.
In addition to following all these rules, the weapons that can be used are limited to the following 7 bombs, which can only be dropped from above.
Disc time: 11:08 to 12:24
Right, let’s begin the challenge!
The condition to clear Mission 1 is to destroy all enemy bombing targets.
As it is the first mission, it should be fairly simple, but with all the restrictions in place, it becomes extremely difficult.
The first enemies to appear are two B52 bombers in flight formation.
The player drops bombs by approaching them in a diagonal position.
Rather than approaching from behind, dropping bombs from a diagonal position means the target fills up a much larger area, making it easier to attack.
Attacking in this way is the player’s fundamental style.
Next, the BM335 bomber appears. As the difficulty level is at ‘Ace’, the player is shot at from behind, but this machine-gun fire does not cause much damage, and like the B52 bomber, the BM335 does not have a perpendicular tail fin, so it is easy to attack.
Finally, the B52H bomber is dealt with in the same way as the B52s earlier.
Mission 1 is safely clear!
Disc time: 12:25 to 12:48
In Mission 3, the ACE enemy military unit must be shot down.
In this mission, the enemy changes its movement pattern based on the style of the player. The enemy here follows a Mercenary Route. The player must adapt his style in accordance with the enemy.
Let’s take a look at the action.
Disc time: 13:15 to 13:46
First, all enemy aircrafts must be drawn in close.
In this moment, one FAEB bomb, which causes huge amounts of damage, must be dropped.
In one explosion, all other enemies nearby are destroyed.
By dropping another FAEB bomb on the rapidly descending, crashing aircrafts, all remaining targets are also destroyed.
Thus, enemy planes as well as enemy targets are taken down at the same time and Mission 3 is complete.
Disc time: 13:47 to 14:33
The conditions for Mission 7 are to acquire the designated points in a limited time frame.
As this is a mission where the ‘return line’ is in place, according to the restrictions it must be completed with S-rank, and therefore the time limit is within 20 minutes.
There are many targets, but those which come with a high points tally are aimed for.
When the player’s bomb load is depleted he returns to replenish his supply and continues to aim for high-point targets. This process is repeated as necessary.
The mission is clear in about 11 minutes and the brilliant S-rank is achieved.
Disc time: 14:34 to 16:37
In Mission 11, ground targets and aerial targets must be destroyed.
The most important point in this mission is the number of bombs.
There are many ground targets, but they are scattered in different places, so it is not possible to destroy them with just one bomb.
There are only 4 bombs to take care of the targets.
The combat plane which approaches must be destroyed in a single shot.
The remaining aircrafts, 2 bombers, and remaining ground targets are to be destroyed with 2 bombs.
Is this really possible?
On top of this, the strength of enemy attacks is at the highest level of all missions.
The player’s radar also gets jammed so he can only rely on his sense of sight.
It is night, and the skies are covered with the smoke from ground fires, making it incredibly difficult to see.
Nevertheless, the mission is cleared!
Disc time: 16:38 to 17:30
In Mission 16, the ACE enemy military unit is to be destroyed.
According to the restrictions, weapons can only be used in the early stages.
Opportunities to attack must be taken at the right time.
Attacks must be made while taking evasive action.
Finally, the remaining target is carefully destroyed.
Safely following the restrictions, Mission 16 is clear.
Disc time: 17:32 to 19:03
Finally, the last mission, where ACE enemy aircrafts are to be destroyed.
The ACE aircrafts first cause damage with TLS radiation rays.
After attacking with scatter missiles they fire long distance missiles.
The only effective way to attack them is to use ECMP at the air-intake sections on the front part of the planes.
First, while the enemy fires TLS radiation rays their movement becomes slow, so it is easy to strike them.
Second, while the enemy fires scatter missiles, they must not be approached.
After a while they will switch to long distance missiles, at this moment the player moves toward the enemy and then strikes with a bomb.
There is only one chance to fire, so it must be dealt with calmly.
Third, as the only part of the enemy which takes damage is the air-intake section at the front of the aircraft, the player must fly ahead of the enemy and drop a bomb aiming to go backwards.
