Valkyria Chronicles – Word for word translation

Disc time: 1:25:43 to 1:26:10

Welcome ladies and gentlemen. You have come to the Gallia training centre.

Now, I will teach you some incredibly important fighting techniques to put into practice.

But before all that let me explain the basics.

This is an active simulation RPG. In the Command Mode you form strategies and in the Action Mode you operate in real time.

It is a game requiring a great deal of effort in your quest for victory.

Disc time: 1:26:11 to 1:26:25

In the Command Mode at the top left of the screen are your collection of medals.

These icons are called Command Points (CP).

Units can move by using these Command Points.

Disc time: 1:26:26 to 1:26:50

In the Action Mode you actually move your units.

In this mode units are moved by using Action Points (AP) displayed on the screen.

Attacks are performed by holding down the RH button and entering into Target Mode.

When you have confirmed your aim, shoot with the circle button.

That’s it, have you remembered everything?

Disc time: 1:26:51 to 1:27:04

Strategies in the Command Mode.
Movement in the Action Mode.
Attacks in the Target Mode.

These three are the absolute fundamentals of battle.

Now, I will teach you actual fighting techniques.

Disc time: 1:27:06 to 1:27:41

Training 1: Forming strategies

One of the most important things when forming strategies in the Command Mode is the consideration of the type and positioning of the enemy.

I will now explain about the Enemy Search Line, a means of establishing the position of the enemy.

When an enemy is discovered you must move your units and confront them.

Comb the area to search for enemies.

Move the units in Action Mode. When you are near to the enemy you will see the Enemy Search Line. Thus you have discovered them.

Disc time: 1:27:42 to 1:27:51

Information about the enemy discovered is displayed in the Command Mode.

Here, you can gather important details and form a strategy to attack.

Disc time: 1:27:52 to 1:28:38

Training 2: Interceptions - Techniques to survive in the battlefield

When moving units, what you must give the utmost attention to is interceptions from the enemy.

Now I will explain about these interceptions.

When you enter the range of the enemy, whatever phase you are in, you will be attacked (in other words, intercepted).

The range of attack differs depending on the type of soldier.
Foot (reconnaissance) soldiers have an incredibly large range. They can cover all sides.

Other types can only attack straight ahead.

Only snipers and battle vehicles cannot intercept.

When you are on the move, there are times when you will be surrounded and attacked.

In a moment, your unit will be destroyed. Thus, you need to take great care.

Disc time: 1:28:39 to 1:29:07

Right, I will explain how you should deal with interceptions.

In the Command Mode, the arrows by the enemy units express which direction they are facing.

Based on this information, approach the enemies from behind, outside of their interception range.

The changing colour of the Enemy Search Line is an important way of understanding interceptions.

I am going to explain about this now.

Disc time: 1:29:08 to 1:30:09

Red – You are being intercepted by the enemy. The most dangerous situation.

Yellow – You have been discovered by the enemy but you are outside of their shooting range.

Green – You are being intercepted, but the enemy is reloading, so gunfire has temporarily stopped.

Further, when you are far from the enemy, and they do not notice you, the line is blue.

In this way the Enemy Search Line colour changes, with blue being the safest, and red being the most dangerous situation.

When you are being intercepted, wait for the line to turn green (they are reloading), then move closer.

Your methods of attack will differ from enemy to enemy.

You can move your units to effective locations, predict enemy movements and attack.

I want you to understand this interception system and use it efficiently.

Disc time: 1:30:10 to 1:30:22

Training 4: Target – Making sure to defeat the enemy

Right, once you have avoided all interceptions and approached the enemy, you are ready to battle.

I will now teach you the necessary techniques to make sure you defeat the enemy.

Disc time: 1:30:23 to 1:31:37

This is the circle displayed in Target Mode when you are aiming at an enemy, which displays the concentration of bullets.

When you are attacking, this circle shows where your bullets will be focused.

In other words, the bigger the circle, the more scattered your attack will be, and the higher the chance that your bullets will miss the target.

The size of the circle differs with each soldier.

If you use a charge soldier, though you will have many bullets, the target circle is large. Thus, if you do not attack from a close distance, the bullets will have little effect.

In contrast, if you use a sniper, the circle will be at its smallest, and you can make a very accurate shot from a great distance.

As your soldiers grow and learn, their skills at shooting will improve, and the target circle will gradually get smaller. Bullets will become more effective.

Disc time: 1:31:16 to 1:31:37

But what I want you to pay attention to is when enemies avoid attacks.

They do this at fixed moments, and when it occurs you will face a counterattack, so you must be careful.

In any case, make sure to fire your bullets accurately, damage your enemies and defeat them.

Disc time: 1:31:38 to 1:32:27

The bullet concentration circle aside, you will have different damage capabilities depending on where you aim.

The three main areas are the body, the head and the legs.

The body is the easiest to aim for and causes steady damage, so it is very effective to attack here.

The head is the smallest place to aim for, and so it is possible to miss it. But if you are successful you can cause untold amounts of damage.

As it is extremely possible that you could fell the enemy in a single blow, I advise you to aim for this place, when it is not a danger for you to do so.

The legs are difficult to aim for and the damage is no different to when you aim for the body.

But even if the enemy is ducking for cover, you can still damage them, even by a very small amount.

This is an effective method, so do not forget to aim for this place either.

Disc time: 1:32:28 to 1:32:45

Also, by attacking from behind, without being noticed by the enemy, there is no way for them to avoid you.

You must master bullet concentration, body targets, and shooting enemies unawares causing huge amounts of damage.

Disc time: 1:32:46 to 1:34:06

Training 4: Footholds – The road to victory

I will now explain about footholds.

Obtaining strategic footholds has numerous advantages, and is a very important factor of the game.

Most of the bases are owned by enemies, so first you must try to take them over.

In order to gain a strategic foothold, first you must eliminate the enemy guards.

Drive them away and press the circle button to complete occupation.

As the bases become yours, you will witness the following effects.

1) Defensive power increases
2) HP restoration power increases
3) Ammunition replenishment supply increases

Also, by gaining footholds, you can navigate your units to evacuate.

Evacuated units are fully restored and replenished with ammunition.

Thus your units have a chance to refresh themselves for battle.

At the bases, you can recall all evacuated and un-evacuated units. Then, you can swap your units around.

Your initial aim is to defeat enemies. Your final aim is to complete the mission. So your main aim throughout the game is to win over bases.

Disc time: 1:34:07 to 1:34:50

Training 5: Orders

I have covered enemy searches, interceptions, methods to defeat enemies and footholds, but there is still one more thing, and that is on the battlefield.

The one thing that can control the war is the Order!

In Command Mode you have the ability to make special military operation orders.

The Orders have many effects.

Your attacking power improves in status. Your HP and status is remarkably improved. You can carry out direct damage on the enemy.

By making effective use of the orders you can win the war!

Disc time: 1:34:51 to 1:35:34

Enemy searches, interceptions, targets, footholds and orders. I have taught you many practical techniques.

But, you must remember, what you can do, your enemy can also do.
The power you can imagine, they can imagine too.

But, the future of Gallia lies in your hands.

I want you to stand up to the enemy and win.

I have nothing more to teach you.

I pray that you will put up a good fight.
