Sony are scabby bastards!

Yeah I know – it’s been some time, I haven’t done much etc. the usual… you can’t tell me you’re not used to this by now. But enough with the teasing, I just got back after some holidays abroad – in fact I just got back from Germany today. My brother same as me is playing a lot of Street Fighter IV himself and we played tons while I was there. The problem, and I wasn’t aware of this, is that PAL Playstation 3’s don’t run in 60hz on SD TV’s. Now he’s got a 43″ LCD (4:3) screen, a huge monster of a TV that looks quite good as well. And although it has component IN (which the PS3 is connected through) it won’t go further than 576P. I’ve tried everything to get that thing to run in either 480i or p but nothing. I myself have a white Japanese PS3 so I, as I said, was never aware of this problem. When I am recording via composite I am playing in 480i and while I am playing without any recording to be done in 1080i. No matter how I am playing it’s always the same speed. I know a lot of people go about and say, it doesn’t make a difference, oh yes it does you LIARS!

We started playing and as you might be aware – I am playing Boxer (Balrog / バイソン) – the round started, I dashed forward and intended to do c.LP > c.LP > c.LK > HP Dash punch … but he blocked the SECOND c.LP … I just stopped dead in my tracks, looked at the screen for a few seconds and yelled “YOUR COPY’S BROKEN!!!” (in German though). He looked at me with a slight confused look and replied with “huh?”. After I checked his settings in regards to his outputted resolution and badabing yes indeed it was as PAL as it can get! I couldn’t do jack! So I played with some Google queries to try and solve this problem, but the ultimate answer was “NO” … “PAL PS3’s don’t support 60hz – if you want the correct output you need to play in HD”. This is bullshit in my opinion, my PS3 DOES play in 480i and 480p if I want it to… why can’t that one? It’s not like it’s a hard thing to do, in fact even my Wii (which IS PAL) supports both 480i and 480p… so what the hell? Well either way, he’ll upgrade to a HDTV (yes we are that vain, deal with it!) – but still i think Sony’s absolutely bullshitting european customers yet again! But it’s still not bad enough that I’d EVER consider going over to Xbox 360 – that really isn’t happening!
