I begin talking: Let people say what they want about the PS3’s prices or Sony’s business strategy, in the gaming industry what truly counts is the games that are available for the system and how fun they are to play. In this episode I’ll give you my 2 cents on a few of the demos I downloaded off the PSN.
StrangleHold Intro Montage.
Strangle Hold’s demo is awesome. Its like a mini game within this demo. You can unlock extras and other difficulty levels as you replay through it. You get to see a kick ass video at the end of the demo which only adds to the main characters badassness as you see him do some crazy things and lets not forget the main thing about this demo….that its actually a lot of fun to play. Let this next scene show exactly what I mean…
Heavenly Sword title
This was a disappointment of a demo. Its so short and uneventful. The game feels like a blatantly bad rip off of God of War. From the weapons to the interactive events, it felt too much like god of war to me. Lastly, next time, add a block button to the game as there is no excuse to NOT have one.
Jericho Montage Intro
Jericho is a great first person shooter with a solid control system and good gameplay mechanics that makes sure that you don’t use just one character the whole game through and forces you to use the whole team to progress through the game. It has the best lighting Ive seen on a PS3 game to date and has a fantastic atmosphere that comes to life especially if you turn off the lights. The downside to this demo is that its short, gives away too much of the game’s story and simply ends without notice much like Heaven Swords Demo.
Bladestorm title
This seems like a rip off of Dynasty Warriors and Kessen II. The controls aren’t really clear and don’t feel natural…I literally stopped playing it out of boredom.
Harry Potter and The Order Of The Phoenix Montage
This seems more of a boring simulation of everyday life for harry than anything else. Its slow in pace and its quite frankly boring to play. I played as much as my patience could carry me and that wasn’t very far. Unless youre a potter fan…avoid this game and avoid the demo.
The Simpsons Title
Ill be straight forward and say that this demo sucks and to this date the best simpsons game is hit and run. That captured the essence of the simpsons franchise. This abomination of a simpsons demo made me want to scream in frustration with an overly tedious list of tasks and bad level design. Im sure with time and dedication someone will easily beat this demo, but I wont be that special gamer.
